Our Summer Reading Recommendations!
The C&I team is so excited that summer is finally here! There is nothing more we love than being in our different schools and working with all of our teachers… but summer for us, like all educators, is a chance to “recharge” our coaching batteries and gear up for a new year.
One of our team’s favorite ways to re-energize and prepare ourselves for the next school year is to relax the blue light of our devices and dive into a good book. Whether we are sitting poolside or on a beach, in the car for a long road trip (passenger, of course!) or chilling on the couch in the air conditioning, we all need something to read! Sometimes it can be a challenge finding new books to help us grow as coaches and stay up-to-date with relevant technology and instructional practices. So to help out other coaches and educators, we’ve created a list of our team’s recommendations for you to find your next great read. See the top 3 below, or check out our complete list here!
- For coaches facing a tough road ahead for changing individual minds and culture:
Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard by Chip and Dan Heath. This is a great book – it is not written for educators, necessarily, but it provides a great roadmap for change in any context. Our team did our first team book study on this, and we still reference it years later!
- For coaches looking to be inspired or become a Google Certified Coach:
Courageous Edventures by Jennie Magiera. This book is jam-packed with great ideas for coaches. This book inspired what is now the Google Certified Coach curriculum and is a recommended read before completing the program. You can check out a full review of the book by Katie Ritter, Forward Edge’s Director of Curriculum and Technology Integration, here!
- For coaches looking to grow as a leader:
Lead Like A Pirate by Shelley Burgess and Beth Houf. Read by multiple coaches on our team, this book contains SO many great ideas for education leaders, in particular on how to change and create a great culture!
